Programs & Services

Grand Traverse County Veterans Affairs staff process emergency applications for the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund and applications for the funding available through our office.  A major focus of this work is to provide one-time financial assistance to help veterans overcome emergent situations that have caused personal hardship. In addition to assisting with the application process, staff work very closely with community social service organizations and frequently refer veterans for other community services for which they may qualify.

Check on MIVET

At MVAA, we believe proactive and periodic communications and "check-ins" with veterans can change lives for the better. Benefits and resources change. Different initiatives and programs start, and sometimes end. A veteran's status changes from employment status, to student status, to quality of life status, and everything in between. We believe veterans can benefit from "check-ins" from MVAA or one of our partner organizations. The "Check on MIVet" initiative aims to reach veterans who desire or could benefit from a "check-in," to ensure they receive the employment, education, healthcare, quality of life, or other benefit/ resource information they need to thrive. "Check on MIVet" is not a mental health line, or a "wellness" check, and should not be utilized for that purpose. MVAA is not a mental health provider. If you or a veteran you know is experiencing a crisis, contact 1-800-273-8255.
